Main Street Moments – August 12 Recap

This week’s episode of Main Street Moments, hosted by Maggie Blaine, was packed with local flavor, exciting events, and inspiring stories from community members making a difference in Athens and beyond.

Chef Chastity Brings Award-Winning Dishes to the Farmers Market

Karen Collins, Director of Programs at the Chattanooga food incubator, joined the show to share her appreciation for Chef Chastity’s exceptional culinary talent. Known for her professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail, Chef Chastity has built a strong reputation in the region.

Karen credited Chef Chastity with helping elevate her own small business, The Velvet Chair Experience, through delectable dishes and creative collaborations. Athens residents can get a taste for themselves at the Food Hub Farmers Market this Friday from 4–7pm, where Chef Chastity will be the featured guest chef.

Nothing But Guac: Fresh Flavors in Athens and Chattanooga

Also at the Farmers Market this week is DeAndre Thomas, owner of Nothing But Guac. DeAndre proudly claims to make “the best guacamole in the world” using only the freshest ingredients. His guacamole will be featured in Chef Chastity’s dishes this Friday.

When he’s not in Athens, you can catch DeAndre and his guac at the River Games in downtown Chattanooga this Friday and Saturday from 12–11pm.

Tennessee Wesleyan Women’s Soccer Kicks Off the Season

Bryan Walker, head coach of Tennessee Wesleyan University’s women’s soccer team, shared his excitement for the upcoming fall season. The team, which began training on August 4, boasts a large recruiting class and an energetic, positive atmosphere that Coach Walker says will set them up for success.

He encouraged community members to come out and support the Bulldogs at their home games—especially their first home conference matchup against Johnson University on September 13.

Sizzling Summer Extravaganza – August 23

Richard White, Minister at Athens Christian Church, previewed the Sizzling Summer Extravaganza happening August 23 from 1–9pm at Market Park Pavilion. The family-friendly event will feature gospel music from three bands, a comedy show, food trucks, and plenty of fellowship.

It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together before summer winds down.
